Google - Verify site ownership

Even when I try the other method of putting the meta tag just into the meta_tag file I put it at the top (doesnt work) I put it in another spot (doesnt work)
Is there a spacific area in the Meta_tag file I am supposed to put this?

Can these files be made within my web shell or do I need to make the files on my computer and then filzilla them to my webshell. When I try to make the files inside my webshell jscript shows up as a txt but jscript_googleverify.php works since it has the code in it. When I try to move the jscript_googleverify.php file into the jscript file that doesnt work.

If I have to make these outside my webshell on my computer how do I make the files? Its been so long since I did this I have forgotten.

Sure wish I knew why I am not able to get mine varified..

Still going mad here! I don't even appear to have anything that even starts "includes" even if I knew how to "create a file" to insert it! - the nearest thing I can find is in the define pages editor: /home/****/public_html/includes/languages/english/html_includes/theme***/define_main_page.php
Thats the only mention of "includes" I can find, but that's clearly not the same thing. So how do I even get into this "includes" part please? It seems Google requires you to be a computer expert, but most of us are experts in our own businesses, but can't also be experts in computers as well (unless your lucky enough for that to also be your business I guess).

Having wasted almost an entire business day trying to get this to work, adding and taking stuff away again, ( added the required DNS TXT ...which Google still cannot find anyway etc Any suggestions before I take a 12 gauge to my PC?

There surely MUST be a way to do this that does not require advanced PC skills?

It doesn't require advanced PC skills. But it does require getting familiar with FTP.

Hi I too am very new to all this!! Finding it so daunting! I have been trying to verify my site too with google. I have tried putting it under the <head> tag as someone suggested and as google suggests but it keeps saying

"verification failed. Your verificationi is empty"

Why is this? Am using latest version.

Help please??

1. Create a new file named jscript_googleverify.php

3. Upload this new file into your custom template folder's jscript folder, like so:
/includes/template/YOURTEMPLATE/jscript/jscript_googleverify.php

This will cause that file's contents to be displayed inside the <head> tag of your site ... and you won't have to touch the default html_header.php file, making upgrades simpler !

NOTE: This will make the verification code show on every page of your site. However, since you only need the code in place for Google to read it ONCE, you can delete the new file again after Google has read it to verify your site once.

Hi,

I have moved the jscript_googleverify.php file into the /includes/modules/pages/index/ folder (on my test site) - this seems to work best for me as the verify meta tag now only loads on the home page - which I believe is all google requires: see here - it also says on that page "Don't delete the tag from the page, as this will cause your site to become unverified".

I just wanted to check that this is an acceptable way of doing it?
