How to list Subcategories in sidebox only

Ok, i've found some references to this, but no real answer on if this can even be done. If there already is an answer somewhere, and i'm not seeing it, please point the way!

I upgraded to zen 1.3.7

I have my categories listed on the sidebox on the left on my main page. I have 5 main categories.

Then, in the first category, I have over 30 subcategories. It's easy to navigate from the sidebox. THE problem is, all the subcategories are being listed on the page when you click that category box...so the whole first 3/4 of the page are links to the subcategories.

You can view this at http://www.paperthreads.com/new_shop, click on the first category, and you will then see what I'm referring to.

What I would like, is when you click on the category link, that the page would then open to the first subcategory showing the products in that subcategory. Customers would then be able to click on other subcategories on sidbox to view the next group of products.

Hope this makes sense! And hope there is a way to do this!

Your site is terribly slow ...

You may wish to turn on the Configuration ... GZip to see if this helps ... but this could be an overloaded server or a poorly configured server ...

While you have a lot of categories and products ... I am not see enough to explain this slowness ...

As to the subcategories ... you could turn them off from displaying in the middle with the Configuration ... Product Listing ...
