Show sub catagories in side box

I have been trying to show the sub categories all the time in the side box. I have it set to open when the customer clicks the category. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to set this up? Thanks for any help.

Did you try to login to the Admin and go to:

Configuration > Layout Settings > Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories

and make sure it is set to "1"?

That might be what you are looking for.

That doesn't do it by itself. That switch allows you to click on the main category name and open the subcategories that way. I found an add-on that gives an extra sidebox that has the subcategories open all the time. Once it is activated the switch you mentioned works the way you would think it should. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm at a loss.

I've searched the boards for an add-on that allows you to show the Sub-categories all the time. I keep coming across the link mentioned in this thread: http://www.held-im-ruhestand.de/soft...art-categories. However, when I click on the link, I am undable to download any useful files and there are no instructions on how to load the add-on. I can download the ch-category.2007-0610.tar file. However, I cannot open it. I keep getting "unkown" file type.

What am I doing wrong? How am I supposed to load this add-on?

You'll need an unzipping program which will deal with .gz files - I use WinRAR (free).
