Default Contributions strategy - liberal or conservative?

i'm yet to install my first Zen cart and i see a lot of cool contributions. now i understand they aren't necessarily going to be future compatible with every proceeding version of ZC.

so would one normally go conservative and only install those they absolutely need as a good strategy? i'm thinking this way you minimize the chance of depending on or really liking a particular contribution that may not get developed past a certain point and if you want to upgrade your ZC, you may have to sacrifice it.

or does it not matter generally and i should go for all the contributions i want?

how easy is it to get rid of a contribution if you need to upgrade and it's not supported in the latest version?

or maybe i'm overthinking all this

...and your needs are quite straight forward... Simplicity, ease-of-operation, top-quality pictures managed for you by IH, and a few of the unobtrusive back-end reports that tell you how your CUSTOMERS are behaving.

If your competitor's website takes two clicks to make a purchase, and yours takes three - he's 33% more efficient than you.

Put your most exciting products right in front of the customer - nice bright pictures, good descriptions. Focus on a very professional look - see if you can make your audience think you're operating out of a four-block pile in Knightsbridge - rather than a garden shed in Bethnal Green!

    ok, thanks.
so it's possible that you can get in a mess later when you have contributions you've learned to rely on that might not be supported in ZC 4.0 for example, yet you really want to upgrade.

let me ask then too how easy is it to remove contributions?
