    Default cart

q1)Does the cart keep adding items to the basket without any conditions? eg is there a time limit of a session. I had the system on my localhost and went away for 1hr and forgot it was still logged in. The shopping basket was reset to 0.

q2)can you rearrange the system so you don't need to sign up to make a purchase, as you just fill out the forms.

1: There is a reason for the timeout on shopping cart sessions - to limit the possibility of a logged in account somehow being forgotten and found by someone else and messed with or information stolen. This has been discussed by others with some good examples. The timeout is 24 minutes by default.
You can set your admin session timeout to as long as you want if you are working in a safe environment.

2: Sign up is required, but the password is the only element absolutely required for signup that is not required for purchase/shipping. Since you need to collect essentially the same info either way, you can reword the text around the signup form and call the password the order status access key (which it is). You can also auto-generate the password and send it in the confirmation e-mail as the tracking key. Many of the account info fields can be eliminated in admin or with simple editing.

There are lots of other possibilities which you can find discussed if you search on order without account or the like.

There are also plenty of people who will tell you why it's a bad idea, but if you believe it will be best for your particular situation, have fun!
