Custom navigation bar, looking for help

I am making this site for Kerri; www.morethanwordsdesign.com, she would like it to look like this site; http://www.bizzybeecreations.net/shop/ (this site was also made with Zen Cart). I am fairly good with html, etc, but one thing I think I will have problems with is making that kind of navigation bar. I would appreciate a little bit of your knowledge if you have the time and know what I should do.

Can I make my own navigation bar with html and add it to the site. Or do I change the current navigation bar to have images as buttons. I dont know what to do to start with.

Move it!

In tpl_header.php, the various elements are contained between <!--bof xxxxxx--> and <!--eof xxxxxx--> comments. You can move any of those elements as a unit to anywhere in the sequence. So move the branding display block to above the navigation block - just don't put one inside another.
