    Default Backup database and phpMyAdmin

Just installed latest Zen Cart at home. Went to Admin and Tools where I had seen references to the fact I would find Backup Database. I could not find this. Can someone please guide me on this.

Also what is phpMyAdmin (also seen referred to somewhere) and where should I find this in order to Export my database.

Only just started - so clueless! Thanks.

Before you do this, look in the backend of your hosting account and see if you have an easier means of backing up your mysql database. Many of the programs today offer a simple backup feature. But this only works if you stay with the same program you backup from. In other words you don't want to go from cpanel, to plex and expect that backup to work.

Phpadmin is used to maintain the mysql database. It's in the backend of your hosting account.

When you log in to your control panel, or the maintenance part of your hosting account click on the mysql link or button.

in there you'll see a link to phpadmin, probably at the bottom of the page. go into phpadmin and choose your database.

You should see an export button at the top of the phpadmin page. click there.

    choose the following settings.

    mysql
    Dump table if exist
    insert tables.
    create file.
These settings will create the necessary commands to bring your database to a pristine state. Hopefuly you won't need this often, but you should do this once a month.

now hit the export button at the bottom of the page and you should be presented with a link to save the file.

It's all text, and you can look at it if you like. Evenutally you'll learn to understand it.

Pop back in if you have questions.

    Hey Godspeed27,

On your site. The default page is in Japanese but says English on the title bar. I clicked the US Flag and the title turned to Japanese with the content as English.

    Or was that intentional?

Well, yeah, default is Japanese, if people come to my site who want english, its easier to find it if it says English up top than language in Japanese, same if a Japanese person wants Japanese and its in English

Thanks for your very comprehensive post and I fully understand what you have written. Next to put it into practice..!! However I feel I have confused a number of you with my post and I am sorry about this.

I am actually not working online with a hosting company regarding the questions of backup and phpMyAdmin - I have put together a hotch potch of Apache, PHP and MySQL at HOME.... so I was thinking that backup and phpMyAdmin was something directly related to Zen Cart, and could be carried out on a home server educational system, which is what I am using at present. Nothing LIVE.

Beginner you see... so now I will forget that whilst learning at home and go and do what you have outlined when I go up to my webhosting company server in the future. Thanks again.

Great link. Many thanks for that - I have printed it off for my records and use later on. Much appreciated.
