    Default tpl files

    Hi,
I have been changing around some tpl files eg product info display etc just for layout changes.

Are tpl files like this designed so you can move things around and edit out things you don't want displayed? I don't want to change things in these tpl display files and muck up the whole zen cart system, all for the sake of layout. I use admin where i can but where i can't i use the tpl files eg tpl prod info.

Make sure you use your override system

Yes you can edit out and move around, but I'd strongly recommend you COMMENT out and ONLY do one step at a time.

Don't forget the power of the css for positioning as well.

    hi,

I do use the override system and yes I comment out.
So these tpl files are designed so you can do this?

Some of the code i added calls other files so I wonder how to use the internal link on my code.

Well, to a large extent yes, but you can't just willy-nilly move chunks of code about - you need to understand where it fits in the bigger picture.

Examine one of the other files to see how that is employed, then header or information sidebox are a couple of good examples

The tpl files are designed to display data. They don't change it. So you might mess up the display of your data, but can always remove the over-ride file to go back, but you won't actually damage your Zen Cart. So be brave ... experiment.
