apple zen temp mods?

how can i get the apple zen template to:

1) show two columns of side boxes rather than just one? i looked in my layout box controller and i have it set to show boxes on the left and right, but it is only showing boxes on the right?

2) use a background image in the header?

3) remove the categories drop down button?

1) is not possible with the way I designed it.

2) do you know how to add background images with css?

#nameoftaghere {
background: url (../images/imagenamehere.jpg);
}

then upload the image to includes/templates/apple_zen/images/

I'm not sure where exactly you want the image though.

3) Open up includes/templates/apple_zen/common/tpl_drop_menu.php and remove the categories section.
