home page url

Hello, I'm obviously missing something!

My hosting company requires that the first/home page of my site be named index. In other sites I've called it index.html. In the help section of zencart, it says the url would be http://www.domainname.com/what_ever_..._zencart_files

I don't understand how my home page is supposed to show up if someone tries to go to www.mydomainname.com

I'm not sure if I'm explaining this very well.
If anyone knows what I should do, please let me know.

Websites should recognise, automatically, the index file when named:
index.html
index.shtml
index.php
etc.

If not, you are using a very inadequate hosting site ... or have an error that they need to correct to fix this problem ...

Zen Cart uses the index.php

When in the root of your site, you should be able to go to any of these URLs for your site and it should work:

http://www.your_domain.com
http://your_domain.com
http://www.your_domain.com/
http://your_domain.com/
www.your_domain.com
your_domain.com
http://www.your_domain.com/index.php

I have another issue, that developed after correctly placing my index, etc.

Now, at the top of my home page, I have a warning that states: "Your database appears to need patching to a higher level. See Admin->Tools->Server Information to review patch levels."

What am I supposed to do about it? There seems to be nothing in server info that can be edited.

It's not asking you to edit anything. Go into your admin and look under tools->server/version info. You should see something like this.

Zen Cart 1.3.7
Database Patch Level: 1.3.7

What does it say in your case?

I have no clue. Your db version is 1.3.7, so ZC shouldn't be complaining. Does it give the Zen Cart Version (in red in my example below)?

I checked another ZC installation I have (the previous one was a clean install for a prototype) and this is what I found:
