First time user problems

This is the first time I have ever used any kind of ShoppingCart. I chose this one because it looked a little more simple than others. Everything seemed to go okay in stalling. The ShoppingCart is on the Internet as you can see if you click the link, although I have actually loaded an example I think. I have two problems, I am getting a message saying that "I can write to your configure.php file" I have checked the settings and they are on 644. I change them to 444 and the message disappeared until I went back into the ShoppingCart again. Not sure what I'm supposed to do. Secondly, if I try and login, the page doesn't display. Any tips?

Also, the page takes ages to load, this can't be normal

Have you installed it on a Windows or a Linux server?

Windows I think, that's what I'm using. My ISP is dream host. I ended up deleting all the files last night and then some of them wouldn't delete, so I had to get my ISP to do it. I wanted to start all over again, but when I tried to install the program this time, I get a message telling me that the configure.php file is missing, and surely enough, it is. I really don't know where to go from here, I suppose if I delete everything, I will have the same problem as I had last night. I tried to download the program onto my hard drive in the hope that I could just nick the configure.php file but I couldn't even download the program again, it wouldn't do it. Can someone please advise?

Before you beat yourself silly - you might want to search the forum for dreamhost and read about others experiences.

I downloaded it onto my server, like I do with all my PHP applications. I had to get my ISP to delete all files last times I could start again. When I did eventually download the files, configuration.php wasn't there so I have had to try and delete the files all over again and try once again. Surely it can't be that difficult?

Zen Cart does not come with the files:
/includes/configure.php
/admin/includes/configure.php

if it did, you would wipe out your files with each upgrade ...

If you read the /docs or the FAQs or Wiki ... you will note that on a new install you should either load a blank file or rename the files:
/includes/dist-configure.php
/admin/includes/dist-configure.php

to the files:
/includes/configure.php
/admin/includes/configure.php

then set the files to 777 for installation ...
