New Listing with only 1 CATEGORY

I have multi categories and I only want 1 category to be displayed in the main page / new listing.

For example:

I have categories: Cars Wheels Tires Accessories plus more....

Now I only want "CARS" to be cycled through the "NEW LISTING"

I do not want to see the other products cycle through the New Listing area on the main page just the CARS ....

So i need to find a way to have the NEW LISTING on the main page and only show the CARS category and exclude the rest of the categories.

Any help would be great.

New parses based upon date(ie "new") and does not look at category....

Try turning it off in the admin and then select either featured or specials and then you can add what you want. See if this is mor to your liking

Do you use Linked Categories or just 1 category per product?

If it is just the 1 category and you do not have any in linked categories you could customize the code to limit it to the master_categories_id being the 1 categories_id that you want to pull new products from for the centerbox ...

Basiclly, I have these categories with it's sub categories

Accessories
- Wheels
- 15 inch
- 16 inch
- 17 inch
- 18 inch
- Tires
- 15 inch
- 16 inch
- 17 inch
- 18 inch

- Seats
- Baby
- Stock
- Racing

Vehicles
- BMW
- Audi
- Nissan
- Infiniti
- Lexus

Because all types of products are added daily, NEW PRODUCTS pick up everything. (which is a realistic process)....

BUT, I only want the Vechicles categorey and its sub directories to be cycled through on the main page.

If you can help that would be great.



I know if I add the Vehicles to the FEATURED PRODUCTS it will work, but I can not afford to keep adding and subtracting from the Featured module, to many cars and not enough time.

This would take quite a bit of coding as it is not just 1 Category but a Category and all of its little friends ... er ... subcategories ...

Now, do those subcategories also have categories?

Yes the Vehicles sub cat:

Vehicles
- BMW
-Cars
-SUV
-Convertibles

- Audi
-Cars
-SUV
-Convertibles

- Nissan
-Cars
-SUV
-Convertibles

So Vehicles is the TOP category. BMW, Audi, Nissian is the sub. and the vehicle type is the sub sub categorey.

I wan to scroll through the VEHICLES ONLY in the main page.


Currently i am using the Featured Products, but that is a pain in the ########..

Take two ... what is your URL?

You might be able to do this backwards ...

In the module:
/includes/modules/new_products.php

Copy that to your templates and overrides directory:
/includes/modules/your_templates_dir/new_products.php

And change the select so that the parent_id on the categories table is not 32 ... as 32 is your Accessories ...

This may give you the effect that you are looking for ...

I found the new_products.php file and placed it in my /includes/modules/your_templates_dir/ as suggested.

Now when I open that file, I found the parent_id line, but I do not know how to edit it to reflect your suggestions. If I just add 32, where do I put it exactly?


Here is a copy of that section in my new_products.php
