Courier Rates around the UK

Hi All,

I'm looking for a way to use a new courier company to deliver our wine throughout the UK.

The Courier offers local delivery for £3.95 in three main postcode areas, then £4.95 for another set of postcodes, and £7.95 for every other postcode.

Does anyone know a shipping module that can be adapted to make this work?

I'd really appreciate any help, or to hear from anyone who can do this for us.

Hi Kristian,

We literally just completed a shipping module that does that on Monday.

However to release it as a mod it would need to be packaged up and have some documentation written up. (It allows specifying different rates per country/postcode/postcode ranges (e.g. GB:KA24-28 would match GB postcodes KA24 3GH, KA25 7SD etc.)

If a few people register their interest here or with us I'd be happy to spend the time needed in bringing the module to a releasable state.

Of course if someone is happy enough to donate some money so that we could take the time off to do this we could get round to releasing it much more quickly.. :)

That's great news! We're been pulling our hair out a bit over this. Please let me know how much you are looking for, and i'll ask my customer if he would like to contribute enough to make it work.

I'm close to looking for another shopping cart, because I don't seem to be able to find a way to set different fixed shipping prices (with free shipping on orders over 50 GBP) for the "Highlands and Islands" and Northern Ireland post codes within the UK - I need 3 user-defined groups of UK post codes. It seems that this is becoming essential for anyone with an online shop in the UK, as this is how couriers set up their charges.

If conor's module does this, fantastic.

Kev Polley's "UK TEMPLATE" for zen cart splits up the UK into the zones you describe.

Thanks, but does that mean installing a new template (rather than a shipping module)? I already have a custom template and don't want to disrupt it.

Hi,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, we've been very busiy recently.

It's good to see that there is finally a bit more interest in this module (4 people! :) ).

I've decided to merge the functionality of this module with that described in this thread.

I'll be making a detail post about the plans as soon as I get a chance (hopefully today, possibly tomorrow).

If I remember quickly, the UK template mod simply provides a (detailed) list of zones for the UK, therefore allowing you to apply shipping rates to particular zones. I personally don't think this is the greatest way to do things as I've found the zones unreliable in the past (although it's been a year since I tried them). For our clients the "county" is optional but postcode required, a much better way to work for the UK I think (although it required custom coding of course).

Just my two pence though! :yes:

As I said, I'll post with more details soon.
