Sponser Side Box / Links

Ok, I've gotten a little confused here. We were adding our redisigned website to a couple of relevant directories. Well of course they want reciprocal links. so we took the banners and put it in the sponsors box on the right of the Site.

Used the banner manager, and simply used a copy of their image, and put in their sites URL. This worked fine, BUT the the sites were not recognizing us as having a recipricol link to them. (at least don't think they were, as one site was saying we were an unverified link)

So I went back and got the copy of their HTML and put that in the banner manager under HTML code. and deleted the URL to their site. This worked.

But now when you click on the link, the link doesn't open in a new window, just takes you off our site to their site.

So how does one use the banner manager, to ensure the sites recognize this as a link back to them, AND have the link open into a new window. When I used just the simple URL to their site, the link did open in a new window, when I used their HTML code, it did not, even though the new window option was selected on the banner manager....
