Selling custom Items.

Hi, Our mail line of business is selling custom items. people select from a rage of options. We have this order process working in prototype but we are wondering about the best way of inserting this 'new' product into Zen Cart so it can then be purchased. We were thinking about inserting the product into the product database just before the script adds it to the shopping cart.

Anyone got any experiance with this kind of thing or know what I shoul be googling for?
