1. The blank order number is normal if the IPN hasn't been able to complete properly.
2. If the IPN communications cannot complete, the rest of the process of generating the order details in Zen Cart will not finish either.
3. Troubleshooting PayPal communications:

4. The log file content that you posted is incomplete. There should be a lot more after that. The fact that there is not suggests that a fatal error is occurring during the attempted communications to PayPal.

It was a stupid newbie mistake on my part installing the patch. Both IPN and Express work fine now. Thanks for your support.
