    Default Downloading files with Firefox

I'm having a bit of a problem downloading a file (an mp3) from ZenCart with Firefox. When I click the download button and choose "Save Link As" the default file name is "index.php" instead of the actual file name. Aside from this, the download actually proceeds. But this could be confusing to the user.

It seems to work fine in Safari.
    Any ideas?

I just saw your question. I'm a Firefox user too... and figured out what the problem is. Turns out Firefox has a "Download Actions" menu that tells it what to do with individual file types when downloading. Mine was set use the Quicktime plug-in, so it re-directed to a Quicktime player in a new window when I clicked on the button (requiring manual download from the player), and didn't know what to do with it at all when I right-clicked on the button.

    THE SOLUTION
    1. Open Firefox
    2. Select Preferences from the main menu
    3. In the pop-up window, click the "Content" Tab
    4. At the bottom of the screen, you will see File Types. Click "Manage"
    5. Select MP3 from the list and click "Change Action"
    6. Click "Save them on my computer"
    7. Click OK

This solution will work for all MP3s downloaded with Firefox in the future. If you notice other types of files giving you the same issue, just do the same for those. (You should probably post these instructions somewhere in your store for users) Just click the Download button, and you will always get the pop-up menu, with Firefox already recognizing that it's the correct file type.

[Note that if someone were to still try right-clicking the download button, it would still result in the index.php error. If this should happen, tell them to rename that file to "filename.mp3" and the computer will now recognize it as the proper file.]

    [Update] P.S....

    1. For pages that have links directly to an MP3, it will work just like the download button, resulting in the pop-up menu to save properly.

    2. You could also use "Remove Action" to remove MP3 type from the Firefox download list altogether, and it will have the same effect... of behaving the way it should. Basically, as long as there's nothing there to tell it to use an application to open it with or to use a plug-in, you'll be fine.
