Okay, I know the no payment question is asked quite a lot, but I have a number of related questions for a particular client.
He really likes the functionality of Zen Cart. It gives him the extensive catalogue he needs and will allow him to completely maintain the site himself. However, he never has and never will take payments online.
Almost everything in his catalogue is very expensive, typically high four figures and many items are into five figures (GBP). He sells equipment, plant and other machinery, so whenever something is sold there are associated services to be negotiated every time. Note that negotiation is key here, which is why he doesn't need to take instant payments online.
What he would like is for a a buyer to be able to browse the catalogue, then rather than check out an item he needs to reserve that item. That action would notify the vendor (my client) who would then contact the customer to start the negotiation process.
So, first of all, can I do this with Zen Cart? Bear in mind, that when someone reserves an item it needs to disappear from the catalogue as if it has been sold or is marked as reserved or similar. If negotiations break down, then the vendor can simply add it back into the catalogue.
Secondly, could I get this functionality with any of the many specialist hosting services available, and do all them allow full customization (skinning) of the store interface?
Apologies if I'm in the wrong place, or indeed if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I'd really appreciate some help.
TIA
