Tax Rate Not Displaying

Are we sure that this is a TAX gremlin? Perhaps it's being thrown in elsewhere?

What are your DEFAULT currency settings? Make sure default currency is set to 1.0000.

See if a packing charge isn't lurking in there somewhere - try switching OFF free shipping and applying other shipping modules (one at a time) - just to see if that's the cause...

Do any of these products have ATTRIBUTES they you may inadvertently added a price factor to? (Unlikely... but check it).

Low order fee setting???

Also ... check your Currency setup for decimal places and such ...

Also, check the settings in Configuration ... My Store ... for:

Are you sure you want to base your tax on the Store vs the customer's Billing or Shipping address?

b. Basis of Product Tax = Store
c. Basis of Shipping Tax = Store

I am in Ohio ... why should I pay tax for NZ?

What happens if you change that to Billing and try the checkout with an NZ address for Billing?

Sorry guys that was a typo my example actually reads:-

Sub Total: $70.00
Sales Tax: $0.00
Total: $70.00

**Please note that I have now switched off shipping through modules > order total > shipping, because i do not need the shipping to be displayed in the total beacuse all my products are virtual.

So basicly there is no change between sub total and total because the tax isn't been added for some strange reason.

- My default currency is set to 1.00000000
- None of my products have attributes
- Tried checking for a packaging charge by doing as you suggested with no change.
- Im not too sure how to check the "low order fee" to be honest
- I checked my currency settings which currently read:-
Currency Title = New Zealand Dollar (defult)
Code = NZD
Symbol left = $
Decimal Point - .
Thousands Point = ,
Decimal Places = 2
Value = 1.00000000
I atually tried changing the code to NZL and noticed that the totals didn't work at all:-
Sub Total: 0
Sales Tax: 0
Total: 0
Which i thought was a bit odd? what does the code refer to here?

changed the above to billing with no change when someone logs on from nz. should i try creating another account in another country?

I just created an account and selected that i was from uk instead of nz and when i go to checkout my order still display no sales tax

If you like, you may PM an access to your Admin to me and when I have time I will review your setup and see if I cannot spot what is off on your settings ...

I have reinstalled zen cart as suggested and entered all the tax info and it worked straight away! I have tested it on the silverfish template as well just to make sure and it works fine on there as well.
I think the main cause of it was when I edited a few php files in notepad instead of using one of the suggested programs
I even installed phpbb onto zen cart while I was at it as well because I thought it would be useful for my site in future.

Great NEWS !!! Well done in getting it sorted!

You learned the same lesson I learned some time ago - - - tweaking the php code can result in some "interesting" results.

I know a fair amount more about the code these days, but I try not to tamper with it at all. Most of the settings you (or any zen cart store owner) want to configure can be switched on or off in the ADMIN panel.

When you thoroughly learn the ADMIN panel, you'll see just how fantastic Zen Cart really is !
