When you make a new template you need to turn it on as the current template and then go to the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ... and set your sideboxes ...

To start with the Zen Cart defaults, you can hit Reset and then work from there ...

Also need to include the template info in template_info.php to match your folder name, so it can read the custom folder you are using, look at the classic template_info.php for an example, this will help you out as well.

located in includes --> templates --> classic folder

Change Classic Contemporary Green to your folder name
