Sessions options: What are the optimal/recommended settings?

Hi, can someone tell me what the optimal/recommended settings for sessions options are?

This is my current configuration

Session Directory: /home/myaccount/public_html/cache
Cookie Domain: True
Force Cookie Use: False
Check SSL Session ID: False
Check User Agent: False
Check IP Address: False
Prevent Spider Sessions: True
Recreate Session: False
IP to Host Conversion Status true


I use SSL, should I change the Check SSL Session ID to true? Also, what about Recreate Session, should I change that to true?

Optimal settings are:

Title Value
Cookie Domain True
Force Cookie Use False
Check SSL Session ID False
Check User Agent False
Check IP Address False
Prevent Spider Sessions True
Recreate Session True
IP to Host Conversion Status true

Depending on your hosting site, you may or may not be able to utilize the setting:
Recreate Session True

and have to switch this to false ... you will know if this is the case as you can test by:

1 adding a product to the cart

2 creating an account

3 hit the shopping_cart page ... is there still something there?

Then, hit the checkout ... can you checkout and complete your order?


NOTE: if your site is dog slow on 1st hit to your site with a clean browser, then your hosting site has not optimized the server for managing the:

IP to Host Conversion Status true

If it is too slow, you could turn this off ...

Personally, if I don't have a hosting site where I can utilize all of these features, then I would consider finding a better hosting site ... perhaps one of the Zen Cart Certified Hosting sites as this indicates to me issues from the get go and more to come in the future ...

I have changed Recreate Sessions to True, everything is working fine. Is setting this to True better?

My site is actually very fast I think, I have over 15,000 products and most of the time loads in 1 second or less. I'm pretty sure I can use all settings, but I don't know what some of them do and I don't really know what the recommended optimal settings are.

I also use SSL, should I set Check SSL Session ID to true?

If it's not broken, don't touch it.

Most of the settings in the Sessions section should *never* be changed from their defaults. They exist only for the sake of specific needs in specific hosting situations. In fact many of them are possibly obsolete and no longer wise to even offer as options. They continue to exist for the sake of backward compatibility.
