help question Exporting and importing products

Looks like I messed up my Zen install this weekend (first timer).
I've loaded about 50 products in the top level category, and now realize this is not the best way of doing things.

How can I export the products data before deleting them in order to create the categories? Then I guess I need to figure out how to import all of that data back in, and place into the new category I'm going to create?

I've looked at the MySQL DB, and see a few tables that contain data, but I don't know how they are related.

In a nutshell, I need to export or backup my product data. 2, delete all of the products. 3, Create the single category (Its for optics). 4, then import the products back in, associating them with the new category.

I've looked at EZPopulate, and even tried to export some data, but it doesn't look like it has all of my data.

    Thanks,
    LIS

Edit the products_to_categories table and replace all categories_id with 1

What this will do is "move" them out of the Top Level category ...

Now make a Category ... this will be categories_id 1 and the products will magically appear in there after the new categories_id 1 is made ...

    Nifty eh?

I was hoping it would as simple as that.

I'll give it a try tonight.

EZ Populate is a great add-on, too. If you are like me, and learning, you don't want to accidentally delete a bunch of products you entered one-by-one.

Makes it real easy to save a backup txt file and make changes to it offline, too.

    Ajeh,
    That worked like a charm.

NomadRip. I actually installed EZ populate last night, but could not get all of the product data in a single file.

It's easier for me to just backup the database every so often (right now anyway). I don't expect to have 100 items anyway.
