customizing buttons throughout

Hi. i am a complete newbie to zen cart. i have successfully changed some aspects of my site after i had a web designer change things around as well.
I would like to customize as many buttons as possible through out the site.
How do i go about doing this?
Or better yet where are these buttons located? their file names? do i just replace them?

One good way I've found to locate those pesky buttons is to simply right click on them and get their names. Then in Admin go to
Tools>Developers Toolkit
scroll to the bottom box ("Look-up in all files") put the image name in there, and select "All Files- Catalog" from the dropdown to search & find out what file it's in.
