sidebar problem

Hi, I'm having problems with my sidebars.

I turned on sidebars in the configuration > layout settings, and everything seems fine when I use the template "End Of Summer" however when I switch to the template "Red_Passion" or some of the other installed templates I dont see any side-bars.
I have no idea how this can be, been trying for a long time now hope you will be able to help me.

If you switch templates, you have to redo the configuration > layout settings. I believe there's an addon in the downloads that enables you to create default layout settings that you can carry over to other templates.

Well now I do have the boxes, but i notice in the categorie menu when there is a sub-menu it shows -> behind the name and |_ left to the subnavigation link, I don't really like this, do you have an idea how I can change this?
