Yes, it is possible to get their shared ssl to work - if you put the whole shebang under ssl.
Unfortunately search engins don't rank https pages, so in the long term you will be crippling your website as far as search engines go. Additionally encrypted pages take longer to load up, so you are slowing your website down unnecessarily.
Have you tried checking out with an order yet, perhaps using Pay Pal, and returning to see website from Pay Pal at the end of the process. It's my guess that you'll end up on the Login or Index page having been logged out on your return.
I'm also unsure about what happens when you define HTTP_SERVER and HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER differently, one being under the shared ssl and one on the main domain.
It will be interesting to see how this works out for you - please keep us posted.

Sorry, My posts were about Admin.
Besides, I think I may have jumped in a bit too soon. Admin on the shared ssl is a bit flaky...
Re the website... I am still testing and working on it, but I have managed to get it so that an order via COD/ Money Order/Cheque works ok.
I am sorry if I jumped in too soon, but I will take you advice and sort out the Paypal bit later.
With those payment methods the customer never leaves your website, so keeping the session trail is not an issue. That is why I recommended you check out Pay Pal, where the customer does leave the website and has to return with the same session id for the order to be recorded.

Done. and works...
Well. Paypal IPN works, But I am having an issue with Paypal Express.
And yes, I bought an item and used 2 different Paypal accounts.

I don't know everything, but I think I do.
Just to clarify one thing for me (and for others who may be interested) has this been achieved by making the whole of the shop front https, or does the site correctly switch between http and https pages?

and did you receive the correct emails and the order actually shows up in the ZC admin?

OK, Thanks for making me look.
It all "Seemed" to work... But up till now, I refunded the Paypal payment. So when theorder didn't appear, I didn; tthink anything of it as I assumed that it had also cancelled the order.
You are all correct. It didn't work...
The Paypal Payment did.
The Paypal IPN did
Paypal Express still fails.
I got back to the SSL site.
What didn't happen was
a) Order did NOT show up.
b) Not sure about emails... May have done. but also, I haven't played with those yet. So may not have set them up.
All in all, I am having too many problems with Zen... Shame really.

I came here to say exactly the same thing - but Dr Byte beat me to it.
As an addition - most other hosting companies don't make you pay extra for a shared ssl and where you do have hosting companies which make you keep two separate sets of files then they're at least on the same server.
