    Default Do I need SSL?

This is all new to me, so apologies if this is a dumb question.
I'm selling very inexpensive items, only through paypal. So do I need a ssl certificate? How secure is customer info? or admin?

    Thanks

    Howdy Robbie,

That is a very good question. I advise all my customers to get one. They aren't all that expensive and the customers that come to your site really appreciate the fact that you have one.

Also, quite a few people expect to have a secure site when they are putting in their personal information and or purchasing things.

The internet is a scary place for the everyday person. As well it should be. There are a lot of people out there waiting to take advantage of the unsuspecting. So, for $5/month or less, I think it's money well spent.
Feel free to PM me about this if you want.
    Paul

    hi,

I was wondering the same thing. So do I just call my hosting company for the ssl? once I buy it, it will show the "lock" symbol at the corner of the browser?

Your hosting co. should know about it before you purchase one. :)

Basically, you have to get a CSR generated and a dedicated ip address before you purchase your ssl cert. . These are all done through the hosting co. . You then purchase your ssl cert. . After receipt of the certificate, you will then have to install it. Best let the hosting company do it.

Once it's installed, you then change your settings in the config file of zencart and VIOLINS!! You will, now have a secure store for all your millions of customers to appreciate.

Oh, and don't forget to get your Site Seal image and place it somewhere prominently.

Don't hesitate to PM me for any other inquiries or specific help.

    Hello Fourbit,

I am planning to install SSL which director should I place the file in? Guidance please.

What is the difference between Open SSL in Zen cart and the SSL from vendors like Thawrte?

What is the most reliable one I can get?

Hope to hear from you soon thanks.

Hi to all Zen Gurus and New Zenners,

Pardon my bad English. Let me rephrase the question:

Am planning to install SS, so which directory/folder should I place the file in? Guidance please.

What is the difference between Open SSL in Zen cart and the SSL from vendors like Thawrte?

Which is the most reliable one?

Hope to hear from you soon thanks.

The SSL certificate is not placed in a directory. That has to be installed by your has to be installed by your hosting company.

Contact them and they should be able to lead you through the process. If not, give us a shout.

As for 'Most Reliable' ? They are all relatively the same. I recommend staying with a common one like Geo Trust, etc.
