Having a slightly odd issue with Featured Product Images

My brain hurts.

I've got a layout where I have a single featured product in the left hand column, and the smaller category thumbnails in the center column. Right column off.

I can't seem to get the featured product image to show up. I have the size set in the config>images control panel, should be slightly smaller width than the column setting under config>layout settings.

Here's the really odd part. If I select "Image - Use Proportional Images on Products and Categories" and turn it OFF, my image shows up and my front page layout is great (aside from some CSS tweaking). If I turn it on, the image dissapears again.

I need it on, because if I turn it off, then my product images on my product page are all wonky and stretched and distorted.

I'm sure this is simple. :) I've managed to make my first customization go pretty well so far for only two days work! If I could get a bit of help with this, I've nearly got things the way I want them.

Start by getting your HTML to validate and that might clear the problem.

Question: Is this image applied via the banner manager - sidebox option or another method?

There we go. It's all validated now except for a file name on an image (which I shall fix) and a size attribute on the logo file which I can't find any settings for in the control panel. Both of which I would think are minor and shouldn't affect the issue.

Seems I still have the problem, so any thoughts would be great. :)

It's via the left sidebox, just the normal featured product module set to show just one featured product under config>Maximum Values. Sorry if I don't have the termonology quite right, I'm still a Zen newbie (boy am I ever!)...

Just as a check to determine if this might be related to a bad/corrupt file...

Switch to the classic template to check if this still does not display the item in this box. If it does display then you need to look at the files that you have edited for this template first

OK then next check the admin > config > images > Image - Featured Products Width and Image - Featured Products Height and compare to the space that you have for this sidebox
