Default Problems with PayPal encripted security check

I’ve seen a few semi-related issues relating to my problem, but not mine specifically

When using PayPal for payments, many of my customers cannot get past the “security check” at the bottom of the PayPal page. It’s the place where you type in the characters for verification. I’ve experienced it myself, even though I KNOW I typed in the correct sequence and have tried as many as six times in a row.

It seems to be an issue on IE. There’s no problem when customers use Firefox, and about half the IE users have had no problems. In all other regards, the PayPal module and interface is working fine.

I called PayPal and the young lady was friendly, but lacked a real understanding of my issue. After checking four times with her supervisor, she said it was a ZC issue. Someone told me that is was the security settings in IE, but I can’t believe so many people would have a problem, especially since its happening to about a third of the people/browsers who have tried it.

Anyone else experience a similar problem? Any insights on how to fix it?

If the problem is occurring on the PayPal site ... I'm not sure how it can be a Zen Cart issue.

Did you get a support ticket number from PayPal ? If you can share it, then I can escalate the issue somewhat.

I figured out my problem and want to post the answer for the next person searching for it.

My store was hosted in a folder of another domain and I had my store domain forwarded (from GoDaddy) to it. That is not a problem. But I also had turned on "masking" so that my domain would show up in the address bar. So when it went to the PayPal page, the address bar read "http://www.my domain" and it should have shown ug as "https://paypal...).

In other words, it was a secure page, but the URL indicated that it as unsecure.

I logged on to GoDaddy and turned off masking on the forwarding page, and all of my problems were solved.
