Backgound Images for main page

What I am trying to do is place a watermark in the background of the main page and all other pages that occupy this space. I followed the instruction that are posted in the FAQ area and it doesn't work. I am thinking that I am not doing something right. Can anyone help me with this little problem.

Which FAQ did you follow (link?)

Do you simply want to make your own background image on your site? If not defined in the css yet, then you should do that:
look for the tag "body"

and add to it something like

background-image:
url('../images/bg.jpg');

The css file is located in includes/tempates/yourtemplates/css/stylesheet.css
The background image should be placed in includes/tempates/yourtemplates/images/bg.jpg if following the above example.
