    Default Multiple Shipping Methods Conflicting

    Hi,

    I'm pre-launch with V. 1.3.7.

I've set up customers in different zones to test different shipping charges.

    - Customers in Hawaii and Alaska get charged Handling plus per pound.
    - Customers in the lower 48 states get charged based on total order, with the shipping free after they hit $85.

I set up two shipping modules:

    - Per Unit for the zone which is defined with Hawaii and Alaska
    - Table rates for the zone which is defined with other states.

Everything works as it's supposed to until a Hawaii or Alaska customer goes over $85. Until then, they get charged on the handling/weight parameters of the Per Unit method, as they should.

However, if an Alaska or Hawaii customer exceeds $85 for the total order, the shipping goes to free.

Am I missing something here, or is my installation just messed up.

    Any thoughts.

    I solved this issue.

The problem lay in the Admin/Modules/Order Total/Shipping

It was configured to give free shipping at a certain order total which apparently overrides the shipping tables.

I set the Allow Free Shipping to "False" and it and all was fine.

    thanks, though.

Concerning zen cart 1.3.9c also , notice this in 1.3.7 to, which is currently active. I'm upgrading. Have been using Zen cart for since late 2008, and have modified it for my needs, but my mods should not affect the condition below. I've added code to the freeshippotions module to check whether customer gets free shipping or not. But should affect not the scenario below.

Using multiple shipping modules, freeshipotions, ups. Notice when a login customer does not meet free shipping parameters ups grd gets selected automatically which is ok. But if customer realize they can get free shipping if they order over a certain amount they go back and add the amount of products to get free shipping.

Customer then checksout and the shipping options are free shipping and UPS as it is suppose to be, but UPS Grd is still checked instead of the Free shipping option.

Customer now has to notice the free shipping option is not selected and manually select it prior to moving to the billing page.

Why isn't the free shipping option automatically selected in this situation?

Notice if the customer logs off and re-logs in and goes to checkout the best shipping method is selected. Why did it reset if it remember the last shipping selection?

How can we force a reset to select the best shipping method without having to log out and log back in?

    Your response is appreciated.

If you reset the session then the saved setting is there ...

You would have to customize the code further to redo how the shipping is managed so that it does not remember what the customer wanted in to use on their order ...

Note: if I am in a hurry to get my order and I selected a speedy delivery method to get it ... I am not going to be too keen that you changed my selection just because I added something to my order ...

    Either way, you lose ...

Understood. The fact is the customer never selects the shipping method. The shipping method Zen Cart initially selects depends on whether they met certain free shipping requirements. If they don't then the alternative shipping method is selected by Zen Cart, in this case Zen Cart selects UPS Ground if they live within the US borders. Once the customer meets the free shipping requirements Zen Cart should select the free shipping method since the customer met the free shipping requirements. Customer is free to select any shipping method after Zen Cart has recommended the least shipping cost method.

It gets a little convoluted, but hope you are following how zen cart is working on my site when multiple shipping methods are offered.

You would need to customize the code to select an alternative shipping method once the shipping method had been selected by a customer and then they go off to change their order ...
