Default setting up a testing site

hi, i have a store set up and live in a sub directory called store. i want to make changes without making them on the live store. i want to create a test store. in a test directory. i did a backup of the database and imported it into the new one. i installed a new store into test subdirectory. when i look at the db the data of products/categories is there. but when i view the catalog they dont appear.

is there an easier way to do this. any thoughts on why the admin isnt pulling in the data from the database?
    thanks, MM

Have you updated the 2 config.php files with the new database and path details?

Have a look in the FAQ here as there are a number of items that will assist you with this.

    Hope that helps.
