tpl_checkout_success_default.php File Location?

We are trying to locate the above file. Can anybody please advise what folder this file typically resides in?

All tpl_ files start out in the default directory:
/includes/templates/template_default/templates

If you are making a change to the file, be sure to copy it to your templates and overrides directory first ...
/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates

Does the modified file need to reside only in the /includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates only?

That is correct ...

The file in:
/includes/templates/your_template_dir/templates

will load instead of the file in:
/includes/templates/template_default/templates

as it is OVERRIDING the original file ... nifty eh?
