Site Seems to Slow or Lockup After Checkout Confirmation

I have been noticing this for a while. It seems that after an order is made (Checkout Confirmation) sometimes the site slows down incredibly or even locks up for a matter of time. I have been noticing this with payments through authorizenet_aim. It may or may not happen every time.

Is this my imagination or has anybody else experienced this?

Okay, who knows if a customer checkout is doing this. But my site is going down multiple times a day "on a Zen Cart certified host". I see this a lot when updating order status. Often the order status updates but doesn't update the status leaving it a null. Also, when going to "Admin Home" I see degradation in the site.
