My apologies to everyone on this thread for the delay in replying. I'm currently overseas and the network connection is intermittent where I'm located so I'll make this fast.

Go to the book's support site (in my sig below) and look thru the links on the side-box for errata, gotchas, etc. If the problem persists, send me an email via the site's Contact Us link. I will try to reply latest 8 May.

    Hi Canopy

Thank you for writing your book. I have a question re: conf. mercury I have two mercury.INI folders in MercuryMail is this right? the code in each is very similar but there are differences, which do I edit I have tried each one individually and both at the same time but still after creating accounts in Thunderbird I can't send emails between test accounts. I get something like: mail.example.com server username or password incorrect, any help?I am using 'password' as the password and user names from page 389. Sometimes when adding the accounts they accept the password at the end and add account in left panel but even if they do I still get the same incorrect username or password when trying to send a test email. Any thoughts?

    P.s.
I had problems with mercury manage local users using the usernames from page 389 (e.g. username [email protected]) mercury won't accept usernames of more than 16 characters so I left off the @example.com and they all added fine if that is any help to you with other q's re adding local users in mercury(will this cause me other problems later?)

    Thank you.

    I ran into same problem.
Go to the book's support site www.cucumbermedia.com, then to Gotcha section, fix is there.
What is happening is that you are entering [email protected]
Try entering just username, then hit Enter

Thanks for replying on my behalf ckosloff.

Hi Craig, I just noticed you posted over at the other thread "Adding Mercury" as well. I have posted my reply there so I won't re-post here. Let's keep this discussion to that post so I won't be confused about which one to reply to. Thanks.

    Dear Canopy

I am on page 38 and I'm hitting a similar problem on setting up mercury I'm sending an email and getting "Error! The message was not successfully sent!" which isn't that helpful.

I tried follow instruction like said in zen cart book but I'm having problem with searching
Add the following line just below the words “localhost.com : localhost.com” in the file. with
    example.com : example.com

I couldn't find anywhere in MercuryMail/mercury.ini for those sentences

For your information im using windows7 ultimate and xampp version 1.7.3

and another problem is I keep having this warning message by windows "A program running on this computer is trying to display a message" when I try view the message it didn't appear anything.

    Have any idea about this..?

    Hi Migustik,

You are using a version of XAMPP that is later than the one recommended in the book which is one of the cause of your problems.

Mercury is not necessary for Zen Cart to work on your local host so you may safely skip the steps in the book that talk about it.

Do download the PDF update from the book's site and go through it in order to minimize any future problems and to keep up with the latest Zen Cart changes. Sorry for the hassle.
