Records aren't visible when status changes

zen cart 1.3.7

Things were working fine a couple of days ago.
Now, when we go to change status from processing to shipped (2) to (3) or to update (4), the status change is going to "nothing" "null" "nada" "invisible" , and then the record isn't visible on the "all orders screen".

I'm afraid to do any status changes or messages for orders - for fear they will disappear from my screen as well.
The only way I can see the orders this affects is to actually enter the explicit order number.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

So ... please explain what changed a couple days ago.
1. code changes, customizations made
2. contributions installed
3. hosting account changes
4. webserver change by hosting company
5. ask hosting company whether they've changed any software versions on your server lately

Actually, after a ton of help from friends and KoBra, it turned out to be a bug in my hosting company's control panel.
If you'd like more info, I'd be happy to send you a file with all the info and engineering.

But we're up and happy on another hosting company now.
