bug Can two carts use the same database?

I want to set up a second store that carries the same products, owned by the same company, but I want it to read the data from the first store site.

Is it possible to install it to the sae database, without loosing data? Or should I try to work from the stylesheet with a php to use the stylesheet dependent on the url?

    Any suggestions?

I'm not exactly sure what you want to do but:

    1. If you want to use one database for two entirely separate stores then use a database prefix when installing the second store on the one database.

    2. If you want to use the same database for two stores then they would probably need to be on the same server - otherwise you'd have security access issues.

This request sounds exactly like the kind of thing that I too am attempting.

    To clarify:

    1. Setting up 2 separate storefronts (different looking)
    2. Utilize a single database of products (each store draws from same inventory)
    3. Single admin for both stores.

My goal is to have two different faces of the same business. One would be a retail store while the other is a wholesale store.

The products in the wholesale store would be a subset of the products offered in the retail store.

Customers accessing the wholesale store are required to have a login prior to accessing the site (perhaps they may see products without pricing?).

In my case both storefronts will reside on the same server. They will each have their own unique URL (domain name) and identity. A customer from one store will NOT likely access the other store (two different target audiences).

If anyone has successfully done something like this I would very much appreciate any advice on how it was accomplished (mods, approaches etc.)

In the meantime I will keep tinkering and post any relevant discoveries.

    Cheers and thanks!

Achieved 2 stores for client, 1 retail, 1 wholesale, same database BUT different
prefixes for each store..wholesale clients could see products, but had to apply for an account before purchase. Retail site normal...
Set up first store, retail, with products, then used easy populate to add products
    to wholesale from initial store..
