Default Define Pages Edior - nothing in the dropdown?

    I'm confused! (no really!)

I went to edit define_main_page .. and like a good girl made a copy of the files into a /CUSTOM/ folder. So complete path to the file is..

    /includes/languages/english/html_includes/CUSTOM/define_main_page.php

I tested it out real quick to see that it worked by changing a single word in the text before FTPing the files up. IT does.

I then went in Admin to Tools-> Define Pages Editor to customize it. And suddenly, the list of files has vanished. They were there before I moved it all to custom. But now the list is gone. Is there another step I need to do? I have the template active (stuff in the CUSTOM folder is working fine elsewhere.

I'm at my wits end here!

If you reloaded your file then the permissions changed and are no longer 777 so it cannot be edited ...

Check that the file exists in both the default directory and the overrides ...

If not in the default directory then there is nothing to override ...

I have 777'd all the files as well as the Custom directory. When they didn't show up I went and 777'd them a second time even!

Still nothing! I went in and changed the files in the CUSTOM directory in Notepad and uploaded them back into custom, and that works. So the files are in the right place obviously. But.. still nothing in that darned drop down box!

It's not the end of the world to have to edit in notepad or any other html editor and then re-upload. But it's a bit of a pain when there is already a built in function that should let me edit them from the admin. That would make it a lot easier to do than the whole process of downloading, changing, uploading again and checking neurotically that i uploaded it in the RIGHT folder each time.

At this point I'm just trying to upload products and get the site LIVE - it's supposed to go live at noon today! *gulp* (I guess it's a good sign when you have customers who keep IM'ing you asking 'can i buy yet?? huh? huh???)

Can you tell me where in the default dir to look? I am having the same problem. The pages aren't showing up in my admin drop down and I don't know where to go in my file structure to see them.

    thanks

The define page files are all in:
    /includes/languages/english/html_includes

    Your custom ones go in:
    /includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_directory

To write to them, the files must be set to 777 ...

To see new files in the dropdown, there must be a copy in the original directory or they will not show as there would be nothing to override ...

NOTE: some domains do not allow FTP programs to change files to 777 and you will need to use your Control Panel ...
