I will check with my host about the patch
All I was trying to do was to make payment through paypal express checkout. I got to stage three of the process and confirmed the order but when it returned to my site, I got the message
It is possible that your server is not getting a proper response from PayPal. It may be prudent to also turn on debug logging as described in this post:

Then try a transaction again, and post the details collected in the log files.
Best to do this after the patch is applied.

I have downloaded the patch. Is it simply a case of copying the files to the respective folders on my server? I want to do it myself as my host wants to charge £25 for installing the patch

I also had that problem. I followed the steps and istalled the patch. Then reinstalled the settings in Admin. Still getting the same problem.
