Help with page layout please

I'm trying...I really am...but I just can't seem to understand.

Would someone please consider showing me how I can make the following changes?

first admin>configuration>index listing there you can shut off the center boxes.

You can the use admin>tools>define pages editor to create the html to display your custom category images....

for the extra green lines below the nav bars it appears that you need to adjust the height of the navbars in the stylesheet to match the height of the tiled background image being used in the navbar as the height is greater than the image and its causing it to repeat. What you are seeing is the top of the image again.

should be #navCatTabsWrapper and #navSuppWrapper

oops! Ok, I was able to decrease the height with a number of changes to that. but now I lost the "store home" and "log in" on that bar. Got any ideas what I did wrong?

Also, I was able to get the "TEES" in the gray in the middle to go away by covering it up I think...???

is this on a live server so I can see it? Much easier to troubleshoot and the "tees" on the front page should be turn off in the admin>configuration>layout settings>Categories - Always Show on Main Page or Main Page - Opens with Category.....one of those two or both....something like that. Hiding it won't do any good cause if you add a category image it will automagically reappear messing up your layout

The "TEES" is from the Categories-Tabs menu, which you can disable in Configuration > Layout Settings. That whole chunk of white space will disappear.

The repeating image can be stopped two ways. If you like the position of the text/search box as is and just want the light green bar to disappear, set
background-repeat: no-repeat;
in
#navMainWrapper, #navSuppWrapper, #navCatTabsWrapper {

If you want the text centered on the one unit of the shadowed bar, you need to adjust this:

#navMain ul, #navSupp ul, #navCatTabs ul {
margin: 0;
padding: 0.5em 0em; // <--- make this smaller
list-style-type: none;
text-align: center;
line-height: 1.5em; // <--- make this smaller
}

Adjust these two items to suit.

Note - some of these stylesheet lines are probably differently laid out for you, as I notice that #navCatTabsWrapper has no background-image.

Glenn is right about the "tees" being from the category tabs....I had to go and look at the picture again......oops
