Cool 'larger image' animated display with background dimming

I am looking at a site in the Zen-Cart showcase where a user (www.towertothepeople.co.uk) has some kind of animated display which shows when the user clicks the 'larger image' link of an item. What I particularly like is the way this highlights the item by dimming the background page.

Please can somebody explain how this feature been created?
