bug IE6 issues: Bold text looks strange & Login sidebox Password field too long

    Hi Zenners:

I set up my shop while running IE7 and everything looked fine (as does in Firefox and Mozilla/SeaMonkey), but I recently purchased a new computer which came with IE6 and discovered that my store looks strange in IE6.

First is that bold text looks strange. Sort of ... pixelated, and insubstantial ... I guess would be the word.

Second is the login sidebox (sidebox module). The password field is longer than the email address field and it stretches the whole sidebox but doesn't extend the row heading, which makes it look really weird.

Neither of these problems appear in the Firefox and Mozilla/SeaMonkey, and IE7 as far as I know, just IE6.

Can someone please check my site for me and tell me if it's just my computer or if it's an IE6 issue? If it is an IE6 or stylesheet issue, I would really appreciate any pointers as I am still learning and am not fluent in css yet.

    My site is at: http://www.frangadesigns.com

    Thank you very much!

Visited site... fine in IE7 and Firefox, but not IE6 as you have stated.

    Thanks for the reply, Misty.

I got around the issue with the login box - I decreased the size of the password box so that it looks a little shorter on other browsers but at least doesn't distort the box in IE6.

But I'm still trying to figure out how to fix the pixelated bold text. I downloaded the IE stylesheet contribution, but am at a loss as to what to do with a stylesheet to make the bold text look normal.

I'm still new at CSS so would really appreciate any advice from anyone. Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,

I've gotten to the bottom of the issue I described above and wanted to share the solution in case anyone else was having the same issue.

Apparently, it was to do with the font I had selected for my site, Trebuchet MS, which for some reason cannot be enlarged or bolded without distortion in IE6, and the sizes of my heading (h1, h2, h3, etc.) text sizes being too large (they were set at 1.5, 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1).

Also, due to reasons I'm not aware of, it seems that fonts can't be enlarged too much in IE 6 and become somewhat stretched.

So I installed the IE 6 stylesheet over-rides and created an "ie6_stylesheet.css" as instructed and changed my font to "Verdana, Geneva, Arial, sans-serif" and made my h1, h2, h3, etc. smaller until the largest of them could display normally (with the largest, h1 at "1.2em".)

This also fixed my login box issue so I was able to change the password text area field back to the same length as the email address field.
