Default Separate wholesale / reatail stores - admin problems

    Hello,

Very long story short, after months of messing with the Dual Pricing Module and having to rebuild my store after never getting it to work, I decided the fastest, least painful alternative was to create to separate stores for wholesale and retail.

I now have mysite.com/shop for retail and mysite.com/wholesale/shop for wholesale.

Even though each store has its own admin login area with separate login and passcode, when I make a change to one it affects the other!!!!

For example, on the wholesale site, I went to the Customer Details section to set the store to 2 for both "must login to see prices" and "must be authorized."

However, it also now causes my retail site to show the same even though the settings in my retail admin section are still '0' for Customer Detail settings.

If I make any changes to the retail admin area, i.e. making sure it's set to '0' and re-saving then the prices show up on my wholesale site too even though in the admin section it still shows both set to '2' under Customer Details.

This is driving me crazy! How do I separate these databases more than I already have??? How are they crossing over like that? Is it because I am using a shared ssl on a shared server???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Indigo

I don't know if this will work, but it might be worth a try. Since both sites have the ending /shop in them, that might be where the crossing comes from, so you might try renaming the wholesale shop to just mysite.com/wholesale, and then, that one would never have any notions to be call anything from a file with the /shop in it.

Did you create a separate database for the second shop? If not, any settings that are stored in the db will necessarily affect both of them. If you did, you will have to maintain two inventory databases for one set of products - sounds like a nightmare to me.

There is a new multi-store mod by Gerome that will do what you want, as far as I know. Look for the support thread and ask there.

Yea, gj, as usual, you've got a very good point there, and that might solve the problem.
The reason I told him what I did, is that I had the exact problem with my local sites that I use for development, and solved it just by re-naming one of them. They, then became totally separate from each other. But, your way might very well be better, depending on how many databases his host allows, also.
One of 'em's gotta work, huh?

Something that *might* work, involving hardcoding one of the stores, would be to find out what constant or variable is tested for making the store status function, and finding every location where it is used and putting a hard setting instead. If those locations also allow for the "down for maintenance", then you would need to make the setting conditional - if status is set to "normal store", make it function as "authorize only".

THis assumes that both stores work from one database. From a closer rereading of your OP it really sounds like they are separate.

Hi Get Em Fast and gjh42,

Thank you both for your rapid responses. Yes, I should have mentioned in my initial post that both of these shopping carts have their own separate MySQL database with separate database name, login id, and passcodes. Which just makes this totally bizarre!!!

I know that the database settings are correct in the required configuration files for each cart, otherwise the stores would not work at all. And yet...when I make a change to one store (hide prices) the other is affected? Makes absolutely no sense!

Anyway, I will try the suggestion of renaming the wholesale store to just wholesale and see if that works.

gjh42, thanks for your second suggestion of hardcoding, but I would not even know where to begin with that.

As far as the two separate databases being a nightmare, in this case that is not so since the retail shop has about 10 products total and the wholesale shop has about 6 --- so I'm not dealing with a store that has hundreds or thousands of products.

Thanks again for your time and input!!!

Hi all. Just a thought. A customer asked us to build her a shop which had both retail and wholesale products. I set up her retail side under the main domain name, and the wholesale products under a subdomain. This way each set of products are separate permanently, each with own database. I then hard coded a link into the header.php to her home page, to allow visitors to get back to the main domain.
