Default Additional Images - why different MED/LRG directories?

I'm curious why if we can add suffixes like "_MED" or "_01_LRG" etc. why can't we upload to 1 directory instead of uploading to 3 directories -- "inventory" + "inventory/large" + "inventory/medium"? Am I missing something?

A: Stores with stock that rarely change - multiple directories should work great.
B: Stores w/ stock that changes monthy/seasonal - seems redundant uploading?

I've read the posts I've searched - curious before I make modifications. Sorry if its been answered before. TIA
    Thanks! -Vinny

use image handler 2 and then you won't have to worry about the _med, _large issue

For a site that has 10,000 product images, if you add a medium and large image for each product, you could end up with 30,000 files in one folder. While that's not a problem for the server to handle, it's a nightmare if you're browsing the folder with a GUI FTP program that shows you all the existing files ... it'll take 10 minutes just to get a file-listing.

That's only one reason. For me, it's good enough !

    Thanks for the replies!

DrByte: I know what you're saying - but 10,000 Main Product images still makes matters worse. Thus the reason for this post. And if business is *that* good - I'm sure this dilemma is the least of the shop owners worries ;) You still have to upload to 3 directories. 1,000 or 10,000 - either way you still have to triple-upload.

    barco57: Thanks, I think that's the solution :)

In one of my client store we use image handler and have set up sub directories in the images folder to match the store categories to make finding and changing images easier and it works great....also seems to make handling additional images easier to
