I was reading another post about selling less than one of an item. I was going to make a joke about it but I was suddenly struck with the true value of attributes.

You see, I've been working on a one person assembly line method of building birdhouses.

I came up with the idea that if I cut the wood for a birdhouse, for instance a bluebird house is the same size as a chickadee house, and nuthatches and tree swallows will nest in them too.

The pieces are stacked according their place on the bird house, side, roof, floor, front, etc. The front doesn't get a whole until I know what bird house is ordered. Now I was planning on having a listing for each type of bird. However after reading the e-start book, and a few of the threads in this forum I now have an understanding of how attributes can increase my profit on the sale.

Currently on our site, and most birdhouse sites out there, you just pick the birdhouse from the selection on the site, or go to a differant site. Maybe even go to a B&M store instead.

However with the Bird Oasis you can customize the look of your birdhouse by choosing the bird you want to attract, which will lock in the hight of the entry hole from the floor, the size of the hole, the distance between all the walls ( or the space that the bird will want, and the size of the floor. Everything else is customizable.

With Zen Cart's attributes you will be able to choose the style roof you want.
Bare wood roof
Wood shingles roof, straight
Wood shingles, wavy ( like a cottage roof)
Grass roof, ( the roof would be cupped to hold dirt and grass on top.
Mossy roof ( like a hobbit's house, but it would need to be in the shade all the time ).
Copper roof, shiny
Copper roof, green (aka corroded )
Brass roof, shiny
Brass roof, green.
Tin roof, shiny
tin roof, rusty,
Bark roof, with pine bark as the cover.
Bark roof with moss.

Then different sides, with fake windows, without windows, windows with curtains,

Front,
Store front, with a sign of a store, and coke ads or something,
Porch, house facade,
Tree bark, the actual bark of a tree. I have a bunch of it.
Natural hole ( using a scroll saw and carving tools to make the whole look like there used to be a branch where the whole is now )

Each attribute would have a different prices depending on the complexity.

Wow. The possibilities are endless.
