Default Install on Unix hosting plan w/ FrontPage extensions on?

I've always done my web design through FrontPage, but I know it is undesirable for using php/zencart. My main website is designed and uploaded using FP, so I do have the server extensions turned on with my hosting plan.

Can I still upload my zencart onto my server using filezilla and then just make needed changes through a text editor or my file manager with the extensions on? Or must I turn the extensions off and completely do away with FrontPage alltogether on my server in order for zencart to work? Or can I leave the FP ex on so I can still upload and change my main website, but if I do, how do I get around FP wanting to synchronize my files between it and my server?

    I'm so lost.

I just used FP '03 to upload zencart. Got it all installed, stayed up 'till 2am working on my cart in the admin section. Wanted to make a change in a file later this AM, did it through FP, thought I was just uploading a single file but instead ended up loosing alllllll of the work I had just done because it was re-uploading every file in my webfolder. I stopped the upload process as oon as I realised this but it was too late. All of my hardwork had vanished.

    ugh.

It has been awhile since I have used FrontPage but in your options menu (I Think) you can set the default action to take for uploads...

Ok hold that thought I found it, I forgot I still had Frontpage installed.

Go to your remote site properties, then publishing tab. Change it from all pages to just the changed ones. That should prevent it from overwriting all of your files.

One of the easiest ways to prevent this especially if it is only a few pages that you have changed is to NOT click publish site, but go to the remote web site tab at the bottom of the page and select the individual pages that you want to upload.

It is best never to use FrontPage with Zen Cart or any other php software ...

The two are not friends and it will cause major issues if you attempt this ...

Upload the files with a good FTP program and maintain a copy of your files on your computer and your site ...

NOTE: always use a good TEXT editor and not something like your Control Panel or FrontPage or any Word Processor to work on PHP files ...

Well if I understood correctly she has a main site with possibly a link that takes her to ZC and wants to use Frontpage to maintain the main site.

One possible solution would be design and work with your main site pages in Frontpage but use a seperate FTP program for uploading ALL files to your server. I know I was a FP addict for the longest time because it is so easy to use and it is hard to switch to something else especially if web design isn't your thing. I haven't used FP in years but when I first started working with ZC I had downloaded a file and clicked to open it and my computer in its infinite wisdom decided to use FP to open it and I about had a heart attack because I thought everything was scrambled.
