Default Showcase setting for just one category

The store I'm building is a vintage shop where returns are a way of life. Because of that, I've changed the SOLD image to RESERVED, indicating that the item has been paid for and shipped but that the return period has not expired. Therefore it is possible that the item will again be available for sale.

However, when an item sells, I would like to move it to a "Sold Gallery" so that the items can continue to be viewed. The problem is that the item is forever marked as RESERVED, even in the Sold Gallery. Is it possible to set a single category to "Showcase" mode so that prices do not show? Or is there another way to achieve this that is not too labor-intensive?

Thanks for any ideas - Tim

Create new category, i.e Sold Gallery, and base it on Documents category..
    i.e. similar post at

This solution is elegant, but does (as far as I can tell) require recreating each gallery product as a document-general. I don't believe you can change the product type of an existing product.
For small numbers of products, the time to copy & paste info/links from one to the other shouldn't be too much.

Hi Misty - Thanks for responding.

The problem with going that route is that it is too labor-intensive. The items I'm wanting to display have already been sold and so will serve only as a visual way to round-out the store. Transferring a sold item to a new category (ie. the Sold Gallery) is quick and easy. Time-wise that can be justified but more then that... not really. The folks I'm building this store for already have an existing brick-&-mortar in place, so the sales will be brisk, as will the need to transfer sold items.

Plus, the presentation of the item itself has already been created: All the photos and text are in place. Re-creating the environement within which the item will be displayed doesn't seem like the best use of time.

I hope I don't sound overly negative. I do appeciate you suggestion, it's just that it seems that the answer must be out there...

Hmmm... what about a site within a site? Could I create a simple second Zen-store to house the sold items? That site would just be a showcase but would look and feel like you never left the store. But talk about labor-intensive. The store would have to be built, which wouldn't be too bad as it is a one-time thing that would continue to serve a purpose. However, all the items would have to be re-entered individually into that store... Blah - Just thinking out-loud...

I've just been discussing with someone how to not show the quantity in stock for certain categories while showing it for others... I expect this logic could be applied to not show the add to cart button for a certain category.
See the Removed Qty Box, now want it back for some thread.

Have taken my original idea one stage further..
using css script only, after initial set up which took me
around 15 mins, have produced this, on my DEMO zencart store, at
    http://www.mistily.com/zendemo/index...roducts_id=180
Probably quicker than creating new store...
