The problem with going that route is that it is too labor-intensive. The items I'm wanting to display have already been sold and so will serve only as a visual way to round-out the store. Transferring a sold item to a new category (ie. the Sold Gallery) is quick and easy. Time-wise that can be justified but more then that... not really. The folks I'm building this store for already have an existing brick-&-mortar in place, so the sales will be brisk, as will the need to transfer sold items.
Plus, the presentation of the item itself has already been created: All the photos and text are in place. Re-creating the environement within which the item will be displayed doesn't seem like the best use of time.
I hope I don't sound overly negative. I do appeciate you suggestion, it's just that it seems that the answer must be out there...
Hmmm... what about a site within a site? Could I create a simple second Zen-store to house the sold items? That site would just be a showcase but would look and feel like you never left the store. But talk about labor-intensive. The store would have to be built, which wouldn't be too bad as it is a one-time thing that would continue to serve a purpose. However, all the items would have to be re-entered individually into that store... Blah - Just thinking out-loud...
