I want more vertical spacing between items in my product listing

Hi, I am new to the Zen Cart. I am trying to use some html code with my product description text. I am using raw html, but nothing fancy. I have everything enabled on my PC. I have been doing websites for years and I know code well. Never had a problem before with any editor. What's happening is... I add the html code to the description and hit preview and it looks fine, but when I hit update and then view the web page, nothing happened. the text is there but the html code did not work. If I use html on the product title box, it works, or the product model box, it also works. I am puzzled. Do I have something in the admin area or files turned off or not turned on or do I have permissions not set right somewhere. Please help and please be specific about where and what to fix. thanks METOOTECH

Which editor are you using?

Everything should be controlled through the stylesheet.css in your template folder.

I am just using the editor that came with the Zen Cart and I have it toggled and I'm inserting raw html, to just touch up some of the descriptions. I am working in the products descriptions area. For changes to the all pages on the site, I use the CSS files, but to do changes to individual pages, I am trying to use the description area on each product.

I think we have some confusion of terminology. Exactly which pages are you expecting to see these changes on? The product info page shows details of one product; product listing shows a whole column of products.

Where are you entering this HTML, and which kind of page is it working on?
Code entered in the product description textbox should not be able to affect anything outside the description.

Hi, I am at the present editing the page with multi products showing... they are done in one column, one product after another. The description length is set at 10,000 characters, but of course I'm not using that much text. You fix link and the fix there worked fine. Basically what I'm also trying to do is put a break space or two between listings, so the product images don't ######## up against each other... top to bottom ########.

Are you referring to the product listing page where all the products in a category appear? For listing pages, HTML in the description is disabled because the description may be truncated and HTML tags broken.

You can set the number of characters shown in the listing description in admin > Configuration > Product Listing.

There is a simple mod to enable HTML; see this thread, post #4 for the code and this thread, post #2 for more info.


The stylesheet is not able to give detailed control of parts of the description without HTML tags inside it, so some HTML may be necessary even if just tags for the stylesheet to use.

Uh, what I had more in mind for spacing is like this page in the Wallet template.... what CSS code does this setup? What code changes the background color in every other listing? ....METOOTECH
