Default Authorize.net Payment Gateway!! Help !!

Is the payment gateway already installed on zencart? Is the payment gateway where you submit cc info? Do you still need to pay authorize.net for their payment gateway or no need and i can use the zencart one.

Also, which one do i purchase? Us account or hosting/isp

Zen Cart contains technology to "talk to" Authorize.net in order to submit transactions.
However, you need to subscribe to the Authorize.net service in order to get an account for your Zen Cart store to use when processing transactions.

You can sign up with Authorize.net directly via this link:
    http://reseller.authorize.net/application.asp?id=131345
(Using this link helps support the Zen Cart project.)

    How it works:
    1. Customer places order on your Zen Cart site.
    2. Zen Cart contacts Authorize.net using your account number.
    3. Authorize.net takes the Credit Card info and the purchase amount and talks to the credit card company.
    4. The credit card company authorizes the transaction.
    5. The customer is notified of the completed transaction.
    6. The credit card company withdraws the money from the customer and sends it to your bank account (daily or weekly, etc).
    7. You withdraw the money to buy groceries !!
    8. At the end of the month, Authorize.net sends a couple dollars to Zen Cart to say thanks for giving them your business.
    9. Zen Cart uses the money to pay for the expenses of running this forum and writing the code which we give away for free.
    10. Your store keeps making sales, and the process continues...

Before Step 1, DrByte, do you have to have a security certificate for the site and take and store customers' credit card details before passing them on to authorize.net?

What if I don't want to do that? What if I want someone to click on a radio button that says 'credit card' and get taken to a provider's secure site to enter their details, like they do with PayPal?

What type of account do I need, and which ZenCart payment module do I use?

Also, if Zen Cart has such a cosy relationship with Authorize.net, why isn't Zen Cart listed on their website as an 'certified cart'?

Because echeck support isn't built-in yet. Once that is done, we will be there :)

The Zen Cart authorize.net modules in v1.3.7 collect details on-site, and pass them to authorize.net for processing. The data is not stored anywhere other than memory for the short term of processing. SSL does need to be used in order to protect the data from folks sniffing internet traffic. But the data isn't "stored" on the server per se.

Thanks for the clarification. It may seem such a minor point, but its these little things that trip up us beginners. I have the 'e-Start your Web Store with Zen Cart' manual and spent quite some time searching the forums but couldn't find a clear explanation.
