The error messages go away and everything works fine:)

Do I leave it at 'none'? Other than the obvious what does changing it from 'database' to 'none' do? I was thinking 'database' was recommended when installing Zen.

    Thank you so much!

    Dear Zen Cart users,

This is a 2007 thread but it is closest to my problem. I have set up a WAMP 2.0 server as a local test site for my Zen Cart 1.3.8a, and followed instructions for transferring the database and files in tutorials such as "I want to move my Zen Cart Installation to another host or a different server." It all seems to work properly.

In step 6 it says "Grab the "Fix_Cache_Key" utility to reset your Admin-Sessions-Session Directory key so that it uses the proper folder path for your new server.

I uploaded the file to the WAMP server's Zen Cart Admin folder where my index.php exists, pursuant to the Fix Cache Key instruction #2.

I placed in my WAMP server browser the following: http:/localhost/zencart/admin/fix_cache_key.php which I read on this forum is the correct command, and pressed return, as directed in the Fix Cache Key instruction #3.

I was taken to my WAMP server's Zen Cart Admin login screen, and after logging in selected configuration, sessions, and could see the screen for the Session Directory.

I see a configuration which seems to match the one at my live site.

I'm not sure what I am supposed to see. There is no message of any kind, as Step #4 of Fix Cache Key instructions would suggest. It doesn't compare a cache setting from configure.php or from the database, that I can see, or if it does, I am not recognizing it. It doesn't say "No changes required."

I think this same screen would come up by just clicking Admin, Configuration, Sessions.

(I am not really sure what the Sessions area is for, and why I should check it, and whether checking that should be part of my shop maintenance routine.)

As instructed in Fix Cache Key instructions#1, I have checked the DIF_FS_SQL_CACHE and it goes to c:/WAMP/www/Zencart/cache, which I believe is correct.

    The SQL_Cache_method is 'none.'

I checked the permissions on the cache folder and was unable to see that in Windows Explorer, but the file did say "read only" and I unchecked that and applied the new setting; however, after running the fix_cache_key, I went back to the cache folder to reset it to "read only" but it had reset itself to that setting.

I have so far not found any further suggestions on what I might try or why I should really be pursuing this fix. Any help will be appreciated, and mostly an explanation of what Sessions is telling me would be appreciated. If I find out, I will post what I have found.

Normally the fix_cache_key.php file would be uploaded to your main Zen Cart folder, not your admin folder.

Surely there's a particular reason why you're running fix-cache-key? From your post it's unclear what the "problem" is ...

    Dr. Byte,

I placed Fix_Cache_Key in www/zencart/admin because Step 2 of the Fix_Cache_Key instructions says to place it where the index.php file is placed, and index.php is in the admin folder. I will next try to place it in the zencart folder and see what happens pursuant to your comment, when I am more awake.

The reason I am running it is to follow the steps for setting up a test site on my home computer as stated in the tutorials "I want to move my Zen Cart. . ." step 6 and "Is it possible to create/build a complete Zen-Cart setup on a test server. . ." step 8. The latter says the Fix_Cache_Key's purpose is to synchronize the cache settings with the database. So, I am hoping to see what happens when I run it and hopefully learn something by doing it, or fix something that might need fixing which I am unaware of.

I wanted to thank you for your response although it is too late for me to attempt the new folder placement you suggest before this thank you. I will let you know what happens next.

    Dr. Byte,

This morning I transferred the fix_cache_key.php file from my www/zencart/admin folder where my index.php file resides to my www/zencart folder. When I type the file location into my browser, it returns an Error 404 File Not Found message.

I would love to know if I should keep searching for a way to make it give me a message back, or find out if "no message" when I go to the Sessions Directory, after it allows me to log in to the ZenCart Admin, means my paths are okay.

Basically, I guess I am trying to understand the program's function and what the Sessions Directory readings are supposed to correspond to.

Maybe I will at this point turn to installing Easy Populate and trying to load my products onto the test site (assuming I can now figure out that step). If I run into trouble, maybe that will point me to any errors.

    Thanks.

If you can login to your admin and storefront fine, and you can add products to your cart fine, then you probably don't need to fiddle with fix_cache_key
