    Default Basic Language Pack Question

What EXACTLY do the language packs do? I mean obviously I can figure out that it adds support for other languages. What I would like to know is, does convert the pricing, totals etc to tht particular currency? Does it translate everything back to english so I can read it? You know those stupid little questions that are only asked by people that seriously need more coffee.

The language pack adds translations for the site core structure and function. It does not translate things for you. It does not translate product information, once installed the cart will add another field for product descriptions in that language. Basically if you can't support the language you want the transition for, then you are looking for problems.

Language packs do not set the currency, you need to set that up for yourself, If you do a search for currency, you will get plenty of info on how to do that.

Think of it like this, when you fist installed zen cart it was in English, in its stock state. You will just get a translation of that stock state.

    Thank you for your reply!
I understand that it doesnīt translate things for me.
Iīm a german girl working in the US and I just want a german version of my page for my german customers.
I went to the download section and downloaded the german language pack.

I didnīt want to install the entire Zen Cart since I already have it installed and did a lot of Html mods.
So I only installed the german files into my includes/languages file.
I got this WARNING in my admin: missing language files

The page looked ok only the buttons show as "?".
I did install the german buttons correct: includes/templates/MY_TEMPLATE/buttons/german
    Any idea whatīs wrong?

There is a nice German cart from what I hear. But if you don't want to do that. You need a one for one of all the includes/languages/english and admin/includes/languages/english you should have all of the files that are in there in your German side of things. I think the Germans have a good support site too. I don't speak German, and I know their cart has some differences so I would check all that out.

"strange Capital letter text" = definitions that are being called up that are not defined in your German pack. You might be missing some define statements in your german.php file.

    Hope that helps

    Thank you for your reply!
I tried now with spanish and the same problem :
    No buttons.
    Hereīs what I do:
download language pack to my desctop
    upload the folder /german to
    public_html/includes/languages/
    upload the file /german.php to
    public_html/includes/languages/

I check my page - no buttons.
Then I downloaded german buttons from the Zen-Cart download page
    I upload them to
    includes/templates/<MY_TEMPLATE>/buttons/german

    Thatīs it. Or is it?
    Thank you for helping!

You have to enter the translated copy and names in your Admin while inputting the products.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
